Fostering Community Through Faith and Film
The Reel Religion Film Festival, a collaborative effort between University Christian Church, Broadway Baptist Church, and Texas Christian University’s Extended Education, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Judith Stempel, co-chair of the festival's committee, reflects on the festival's evolution, noting the increasing diversity of attendees as a testament to its growing community impact.
A Cinematic Experience
Fort Worthians are invited to join the festival on January 26 and 27 at Broadway Baptist Church. The event offers a lineup of 21 films spanning religious, cultural, and philosophical themes. Attendees can engage in post-screening discussions led by facilitators from various churches, fostering meaningful dialogue and connection within the community.
Uniting Faith and Film
Preparations for the festival begin months in advance, ensuring a curated selection of films that provoke thought and inspire conversation. Joe Ahearne, co-chair of the festival's committee, emphasizes the goal of including films with a profound message, underscoring the festival's role in promoting dialogue and understanding among attendees.
Honoring a Legacy
The festival honors the vision of Kenneth Lawrence, former chairman of TCU's religion department, who sought to bridge the gap between faith and film. Carol Jane Lawrence, his wife, continues to champion his legacy, spearheading efforts to uphold the festival's mission of connecting individuals through the transformative power of cinema.
