BISHKEK, September 2: Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has described Russia, China and India as powerful, resource-rich nuclear states whose initiatives could play a major role in shaping the future of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Speaking at the SCO Plus meeting in Bishkek, Lukashenko said other members of the organisation were looking to the three major powers to take greater initiative within the grouping.
His comments came as leaders of the SCO gathered in the Kyrgyz capital amid discussions on regional security, economic cooperation and the organisation’s broader role in a changing international order.
The summit brought together leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Their presence highlighted the growing importance of the SCO as a platform for dialogue among major Eurasian powers.
Lukashenko’s remarks underscore expectations that Russia, China and India could provide greater political and economic leadership within the organisation, while SCO members continue to seek stronger cooperation on shared regional and global challenges.
