Moscow, September 21, 2026: Ukraine has launched one of its largest drone attacks on Moscow since the beginning of the war, with hundreds of drones reportedly targeting the Russian capital and surrounding areas.
Russian authorities said air-defence systems intercepted and destroyed a large number of drones approaching Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the attack caused damage in several locations, including residential areas and critical infrastructure.
The overnight strikes also reportedly disrupted flights at several airports around Moscow as authorities temporarily restricted air traffic for security reasons.
Russian officials described the attack as a major escalation, while Ukrainian authorities have not immediately provided detailed comments on the reported strikes.
The attack comes amid continuing Russian and Ukrainian strikes on military, energy and infrastructure targets, as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain unresolved.
Details about casualties and damage are still being assessed by authorities.
