Frankfurt, August 20, 2026: Lufthansa has officially launched its new high-speed in-flight internet service powered by SpaceX’s Starlink, marking a major upgrade to connectivity for passengers travelling above the clouds.

The first Starlink-equipped aircraft, an Airbus A320neo, operated its inaugural passenger service on August 19, flying from Frankfurt to Rome. Lufthansa says the new system delivers significantly faster connectivity with low latency, allowing passengers to browse the web, stream video, use cloud-based applications and work online during flights.

The service, branded “Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi,” will initially be available to passengers who log in with a Miles & More membership or Lufthansa Group Travel ID, with connectivity offered free of charge across travel classes.

Lufthansa Group plans an ambitious rollout covering approximately 850 aircraft across Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines by 2029. The company says the upgrade will make it possible for passengers to enjoy an internet experience much closer to what they expect on the ground.

The Starlink deployment is expected to transform the traditional in-flight Wi-Fi experience, particularly for passengers who want to stream content, participate in online work, synchronize files or stay connected throughout their journey.

With the rollout now underway, Lufthansa is positioning Starlink-powered connectivity as a key part of the airline group’s next-generation passenger experience.
